Deadline for #Canadian schools to win a $20,000 Outdoor Classroom via MAJESTA

One of the things I love about products I use in my household is hearing and learning the good the company does for communities, especially when it comes to kids. Education for kids means a lot to me and learning that Majesta has started their annual Tree of Knowledge Competition where your school could win $20,000 for an outdoor classroom, I was very impressed and excited all at once.



Since 2011, Majesta, Tree Canada and Focus on Forests have been helping schools take learning outdoors, and this year even more schools will have the opportunity to bring their projects to life with additional prizes available for schools that finish 2nd, 3rd and 4th place and for the school that shows the most creativity in rallying support.

Since the program was launched in 2011, more than 80 schools from across the country have submitted an application for their chance to win an outdoor classroom. Ideas for outdoor classrooms have included everything from gardens and nature trails, to shaded study areas, interactive learning spaces and musical play places.

Below are the list of Prizes that your school could win:

Grand prize consisting of an outdoor classroom from MAJESTA valued at $20,000, expert consultations from Tree Canada and outdoor learning curriculum support from Focus on Forests

Secondary prizes consisting of $5,000 for the runner-up, $3,000 for third place, $2,000 for fourth place and $1,000 for all other finalists

The most creative prize consisting of $3,000 for the school who shows the most creativity, enthusiasm and community engagement during the voting period.

Tru Kid's Hero Stick Review

We've had the pleasure of reviewing some products from Tru Kid before and had a great expereince. So when we were asked to review one of their newest products, Hero Stick, we definitely wanted to review and see how it worked.



The Hero Stick is easy to use and is very handy for your every day boo-boo's and ouchies your little ones may get. The Hero Stick also helps with bug bites, eczema and rashes as well. What I love about Tru Kid and their products is that all of them are all natural and organic.

With a son that climbs, jumps and runs every where, this stick worked great for me and was very convenient. Small enough to fit in your purse to take with you on the go and strong enough to make every ouchy feel better.

I was really impressed with how well the Hero Stick worked. Not only was this a life saver at birthday parties and family functions, but this seem to do the trick especially on Halloween when my son ran and fell. He had a scratched knee and this seemed to not only calm him down, but took away the sting of the boo-boo he got.

This is definitely a stick that will benefit every mom out there with their little ones and definitely something I hope to see out in stores here in Canada soon.

A Boardgame Perfect for A Girls Night In, ZinZig

Every so often my girlfriends and I go out and have a few drinks together and play catch up, but lately with the holidays near and Winter fastly approaching, we've been staying in and hanging out together and that's just as much fun.


Two things we love to do is drink wine and play games together, so when we had the opportunity to try ZinZig, a wine tasting trivia game, we jumped on it and were super excited. To play the game you do need between two to three bottles of wine depending on the number of players that are playing and if you have around six players, you can break off into teams, which is the part we liked best. There was six girls total, so breaking off into teams and helping each other out with the questions was a lot easier than being asked as an individual.

The game is pretty easy to follow, the questions, not so much, but if you're a wine expert or know a bit about wine, the questions would seem easy as pie to you. We did seem to get a few questions correct, but not many since the group of us love wine, but aren't experts on it. It was truly a fun experience and we had a great time playing together and learning some things we didn't know before hand and of course, sipping on our wine.

This game would be perfect for the up and coming holidays for a group of adults, definitely worth trying. I'll be bringing this trivia game with me for Christmas dinner to my mother in laws so we can all play together, which should be fun!

A Mother Daughter Film Worth Watching, Disney's Brave!

I was super excited to have the opportunity to watch Disney's Brave. Not only do I love that this new princess is from Scotland, but I absolutely love how independent she is and how hard she tries to let it be known that she does not need a man, she's completely capable of taking care of herself.

Brave is a thrilling journey set in the ancient and magical Highlands of Scotland and follows the heroic journey of the headstrong, young adventurer Merida. Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida confronts tradition and defies an age-old custom that inadvertently unleashes chaos, and forces her to discover the true meaning of bravery.

More than anything I loved how the relationship between the Princess and Queen grew. Throughout the movie I have to admit I shed some tears. This is such a perfect movie for any mom and daughter to watch together, as one of my friends told me before I watched the movie, "It's kinder to the mother-daughter relationship than a lot of other kids movies are," I couldn't agree more. And that was something that drew me  in more into the already great story.

If you haven't already seen this movie, go get it now! It's out in stores and it's definitely a movie worth having.

Music to My Ears: Jeremy Camp's Christmas Album Review & Giveaway

Out of all my newest Christmas music I've received, this by far is my favorite. Jeremy Camp's Christmas: God With Us, is just wonderful. Both my husband and I have enjoyed listening to it this past week. Not to mention, Jeremy is pretty good looking on the eyes, lol.


This album is Jeremy's first full length Christmas project within his 10 years of being in the music industry. It's filled with Holiday spirit with classic songs that have been updated for this generation, like, Jingle Bell Rock and Let It Snow and was definitely worth the wait. Jeremy's voice is smooth and is a delight to listen to. This album has ten songs on it and I can listen to these ten songs over and over again.

Looking for a twist on some good old classic Christmas music then look no more, this is hands down one of my favorites and will be on my playlist for years.

Hillsong: We Have A Savior Christmas Music Review & Giveaway

I've been playing Christmas music non stop since Thursday. It's been awesome. This is one of my favorite times of the year. Getting family together and enjoying their company, eating delicious foods and of course listening to holiday music.

It was easy to assemble and even easier to use!  It was so convenient to place the dirty diapers in the diaper genie and change it every few days rather then putting it in a garbage pail to smell until I got around to changing it.  It was so impressive the way it contained the odor from all of those diapers.  Changing the bag was quick and simple to do.

My only concern was the cost of the refills and I have not yet determined if the cost is worth the convenience of the diaper genie.  I priced the refills at a few stores in my area and they are generally priced the same, $4.99, which is pretty good and not that expensive depending on how many times you use and run out of the refils. The diaper genie itself ranges around $45.99. I plan to continue using the diaper genie to see how long one refill lasts and if it is worth it to buy more refills each time. I truly did enjoy using the diaper genie!

Josh Wilson Presents Noel Review & Giveaway

American Thanksgiving has passed and for my household that officially means it's okay to put up our tree and crank up the Christmas music. So this passed weekend we did just that. We took the kiddos to our town's Santa Parade and the next day we went to get a tree and started decorating.


I just love Christmas music and Josh Wilson's first full length Christmas album, Noel, was no different. This full Christmas album, Noel, is to go along side with his up and coming Christmas tour that will be starting soon and from the success of his previous Christmas tour, Noel: A Unique Christmas Experience.

He gives you his version of a couple of songs we all know and love, plus adds in a few songs that some may not have heard or be familiar. I know I was pretty excited to hear a few of his songs I grew up listening to in church when I was younger.

I was very impressed with the album as this was my first time hearing anything from him and have been listening to it ever since. This is going to be perfect to play during Christmas Eve and Christmas dinner for the family. @EcoTraction Perfect For This Winter and Spring! #NoRoadSalt

I love finding out about new companies, especially ones that are made here in Canada and ones that have items that can help and benefit my family. One of the latest new companies I've gotten familiar with is, Eco Traction. Eco Traction is an all natural volcanic, non toxic mineral that grips to ice. You can use this in place of salt during Winter. It helps prevent slips and works instantly once sprinkled on ice and snow.



Eco Traction was created by founder, Mark Watson after his dog died from licking harmful road salt. This lead Mark to looking into non toxic alternative road salt so this would never happen to anyone again. Loosing your pet is like loosing a member of your family, I can't even imagine loosing our dog from toxic salt.

Another great thing about Eco Traction is that once Winter is over and the snow has melted you can sweep minerals onto your lawn because it helps improve soil and helps your lawn grow healthy in the Spring, so you get twice the action for you paid for.

I was sent two 10lbs containers of Eco Traction along with a 5lbs bag of Eco Traction and two of boxes of their Eco Air, which you can see in the photo below.



Unfortunately, as it's not snowing here in my part of town I was unable to try out Eco Traction, but I have high hopes for it and have seen so many positive reviews that I'm confident in this product. Not to mention that this morning it got the stamp and approval for PTPA, which means this is definitely parent approved and that works for me!

One thing that I did get to try was their Eco Air. Eco Air helps with odor and moisture elimination and  this is definitely a need for everyone even if you don't have pets or kids. For me, I used one box next to my dog, Izzie. We love her dearly, but my nose is highly sensitive to smells and odors so sitting one next to her sleeping area was a must. Another place I used this was my hallway closet. This is where all of our shoes are kept. This was needed here because my husband's work boots and my kids shoes aren't filled with roses and  I often have to febreeze this area. I was happy to see that when I tried Eco Air the odors actually disappeared and I've never been so pleased. I noticed a difference in the smell of the spots where I put the Eco Air box within 24 hours. This is definitely something all of us should be using and not just by pets or where shoes are, but you can put this in your fridge, you can put this in your vehicle, in your kids closet, anywhere there might be odor or moisture.

Mommy Parties: The #LittlestPetShop Playdate thanks to @HubTVNetwork

We had yet another great opportunity to be a host to one of the Mommy Parties. This time it was something I knew my daughter would flip over, The Littlest Pet Shop. And of course, I was right. When I told her we'd be hosting a play-date with a couple of her friends, her eyes lit up. She's been loving The Littlest Pet Shop for the last couple of years now and Santa has managed to bring her some nifty items of The Littlest Pet Shop family.

This past weekend we gathered a handful of teenybopping Justin Bieber and One Direction loving girls and put them in a room with food, treats, goodies, music and the highlight of the day, The Littlest Pet Shop: Blythe's Big Adventure parts one and two. This was a premiere screening that none of the girls had seen before as it just premiered on November 10th on Hub TV, so they were all super excited when it was time to watch the show.


To start off the play-date was a small lunch which was mac and cheese (my daughter's all time favorite) in a cup, which the girls seemed to love. We then had snacks for them all to munch on during the show and throughout the entire play-date  which was brownie bites with sprinkled icing they got to top themselves, popcorn and juice boxes.


During lunch I sat out some of the toys of The Littlest Pet Shop that my daughter had on the table for all the girls to play with. They ate, laughed, danced, talked and they also did their nails and about an hour and a half into the play-date I had the girls bring down the treats and watch the movie.

They loved the show and watched it twice. The songs were catchy and the show itself was colorful and vibrant and they loved the new character, Blythe.



This turned out to be one of our most successful play-dates ever, the girls had tons of fun and at the end were rewarded with a few goodies to take home, some Littlest Play Shop lip balm and mirror/brush. While the girls were leaving I was being asked when the next play date was, I guess this was a success!

Iams: Home For The Holidays Pet Adoption Drive

We've posted before about Iams. Our Boston Terrier, Izzie, has been in our family for the last four years. She is a member of this family and we look for products that will help keep her strong and healthy so that she's with us for years. One brand that we've used for a while now has been Iams.

One thing that I just learned about Iams is there Home For The Holidays Pet Adoption Drive program. They are going into their 14th annual drive and I couldn't be more honored in being a loyal customer. I love seeing companies that we love take their brand and do something good with it.

The program has been running since the beginning of October and will end at the beginning of the new year, January 2, 2013. The Iams Home For The Holiday help raises awareness of pet adoption while also ensuring proper nutrition for more homeless pets.


Iams will again work with founding partner Helen Woodward Animal Center, the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies and more than 4,000 animal organizations worldwide to encourage pet adoption.

Canadians can participate by lending a hand by:


  • Donating through Bags 4 Bowls – For those who are already pet parents, Iams will donate one bowl of food to a participating Iams Home 4 the Holidays animal organization for every specially marked package of Iams pet food purchased during the campaign.
  • Adopting from a local shelter – Every day more and more animals end up in shelters or in rescue care, and more than 25 per cent are pure breeds*. This is important to keep in mind when deciding to bring a pet into your life, the animal you’re looking for is probably in your neighborhood shelter. To find a participating animal shelter or rescue organization near you, visit iams.ca or facebook.com/iams
  • Volunteering – Shelters need volunteers to do everything from feeding, caring for and keeping rescue animals company, to assisting at events and fundraisers. If you can’t adopt but would still love to help do so as a volunteer.

@Splashnboots Coconuts Don’t Fall Far From the Tree

I absolutely love finding music that my kids can listen to without me having to by the radio version of a song. When given the opportunity to check out and review Splash 'N Boots latest album, Coconuts Don't Fall Far From The Tree, I was excited because I wanted to see how my son would like it. He's not much of a music person like my daughter is and I was hoping this album would change that.

Turns out he loves it and shouted out to me that they were on TreeHouse a few days prior, lol. Both him and my five year old niece have been dancing and singing to the album ever since we got it. His favorite song had to be, "Dinosaurs in My Kitchen." He loves dinosaurs and while listening to this song and hearing the lyrics he laughed and danced as he imagined dinosaurs in our kitchen eating his chicken, lol.

I love that not only are the songs from this album catchy and makes you shake your booty, but they're also fun and out going and the lyrics are easy enough for kids of all ages to learn and sing to. Another thing I loved about this album was that all the songs helped with something, whether it was going on the potty or eating a certain food, I love how they make everything fun for kids.

Fun for all ages, this is definitely an album worth getting for your little ones, you won't regret it. Check out this teaser below to see and hear how much fun this album is!

Well today I want to share with you a company called, CardSwap. CardSwap is basically where you can sell your new or used gift cards in exchange for either another gift card towards a place you really want or for cash. Simple, right?

I had the opportunity to check out and sign up for CardSwap myself and purchase one of their gift cards.  I chose a cineplex card for a great date night out for the hubby and myself. Let me tell you, now is the time to be swapping cards, especially since Christmas is literally around the corner. #Disney's Brave Giveaway

Ice Age: Continental Drift Review & Printables

Sub-zero heroes Manny, Diego, and Sid embark upon a high-seas adventure after their continent is set adrift.  Using an iceberg as a ship, they encounter sea creatures and battle pirates as they try to reunite with their herd.  In the wake of these upheavals, Sid reunites with his cantankerous Granny, and the herd encounters a ragtag menagerie of seafaring pirates determined to stop them from returning home.

MY REVIEW
I've watched the movie Ice Age since before I had kids. I remember watching the first movie with my younger siblings who are now all adults. Ten years later I'm still enjoying the movies, but now with my kids.

When we got the opportunity to watch Ice Age Continental Drift I was pretty excited. My kids absolutely loved the previous movies and this was no different. Filled with tons of laughter, a great storyline and with an awesome cast, Ice Age Continental Drift is a perfect family movie for everyone to enjoy. Not only is this latest addition fun for kids, but adults too. I love that there was adult humor in this movie. The new addition to the cast did a pretty good job fitting in as well. My kids loved seeing Manny's daughter and loved that Diego finally found a love interest, it was great and this would be a great add to your collection and a great gift since Christmas is around the corner. Look for Ice Age: Continental Drift coming to stores on DVD and Blu-ray December 11th!

Thirsty Thursday: Caramel Apple Cider

During my search a couple of weeks ago for copycat versions of my favorite drinks from Starbucks, I've shared with you a copycat version of their Salted Caramel Pumpkin Latte and last year was their Pumpkin Spiced Latte. Now I bring you a quick and easy version of their Caramel Apple Cider.

I remember last year going to Starbucks and buying a few of these and going back for more because they were so good and the kids absolutely loved them. As soon as it started getting cold my daughter asked for some warm apple cider. So when I found the recipe for a cheaper and easier way to make these bad boys at home, I had to try them.

The kids came home from school and were so surprised and excited. I've never seen them finish any warm beverage before. Normally they get super excited about hot chocolate too, especially when I add marshmallows or whip cream, but they never seem to finish their first cup. These cups were emptied and they were asking for seconds.

This recipe is definitely something that can be doubled or even tripled if you have more than four guests. This would be perfect for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years or just for sitting around the house on a cold day watching a movie or reading your favorite book. Enjoy!



CARAMEL APPLE CIDER
Source Adapted from Crockpot 365
Serves 4

Ingredients
4 cups of Apple Cider
3 Tablespoons of Ice Cream Topping Caramel Syrup
1/2 Tablespoon of ground cinnamon
1/4 Teaspoon of ground cloves

Directions: Using a crockpot mix in all of your ingredients and stir well. Place on low for about four hours and walk away, that's it! Once the four hours are done serve in mugs and enjoy.

If you have left leftovers place in the refrigerator and you can serve it again the next day by filling up a mug and placing it in the microwave for a couple of minutes.
